It's been a while since I reviewed something I picked up completely at random. But when I found these online I couldn't resist them.
For one thing, I really like trying sweets from different countries (like most people). I've had different flavors of Hi Chew before, and always really liked the texture (Think chewing gum crossed with taffy). I felt like picking some up again and to my amazement found these:
I found One Piece special edition packs complete with a random tiny gashapon charms! These were apparently a limited edition item back in 2013 along side the punk hazard arc in the anime. I wasn't aware of these existing then, otherwise I would've picked these up sooner.
I bought eight packs trying my luck at pulling the few I really wanted. The backs of the packs show the ten possible charms: Caesar Clown, Smoker Tashigi, Dangling Chopper, Sanji Nami, Trafalgar Law, Luffy, Tashigi Smoker, Diable Jambe Sanji, Nami Franky, and Dragon form Momonosuke. As adorable as little Chopper and tough Nami are, my real hope is for that blushy Smoker.
The packs themselves are nice, coming with ten pieces of individually wrapped Hi Chew candies. Even the packs have little characters on them. The candy itself have a flavor somewhere between their Apple (possibly Lime?) Hi-chew and Ramune Soda Hi Chews. These were unique by having the green and blue jelly parts floating throughout the Hi Chew piece rather than mixed in; as it shows on the wrapper below. If anyone knows the exact name of this flavor on these let me know! They happen to be really good....
The tiny bonus boxes have numbers on them that correspond to the charm inside. I had two 3 boxes, two 4 boxes, 5, 7, 8, and 9. I never mind pulling doubles though, so lets see what these are!
Starting off great! Chopper was in my number 3 box! This little guy is going straight onto my purse.
Pulled a second one, which is good incase I ever loose the first.
My number 4 boxes had the lovey Sanji Nami! Another one that I wanted. I ended up putting one on my keys.
Next up Nami Franky! Trying to shoot the beam, poor Nami in this arc....
Caesar Clown looks really good like this actually! He is doing his Villian pose very well here.
Pulled Momonosuke right after Caesar clown, and he is also a really cute charm.
Yes! My finale was the way cool attacking Sanji! He was another one I wanted to get out of these packs.
So here is my bounty all in all. I'm considering getting some more of these packs, just to have Hi Chews around for a while and try my hand at getting Smoker again. If anyone has the Smoker from this set and would like to trade or sell, leave me a comment or send me a message!
These are really detailed metal charms, not just plastic or paper. I tend to prefer the metal ones for things like my purse and my keys, because they stay clean and last longer. They are also very small, here is chopper next to the bead and Layton coin I have on my purse for a size comparison.
I can't say the word CUTE enough in this post.....
