Up for review tonight is a bit of an oddity. I have a couple of other prize figures, but I did research on them before purchase. I bought this one on a whim because I really like the character. Also I like trying other company figures, and since I don't have a FuRyu figure I thought for 7 bucks why not try?
The first thing about buying a figure I knew nothing about was not knowing just how large the figure box would be. The princess is a full 8 inches tall and the box is a 12 by 12 cube. So shipping will be kinda rough for this one.
It's a nice bright box, but really thin cardboard wise. What really hold it up is the plastic clam shell inside.
She also comes with some supports, but they are really odd when you place both in the base. I suggest the back one because this seems like a figure that would be a leaner.
And thaaaats pretty much it. Over all the figure on the whole is fine. She looks really good from far away, up on a shelf, but up close it has weird details. Also it's hard to note in the pictures, but the plastic is really hard so she looks really dull in the skin and hair. But it's not too bad.
The shine on the black portions is odd, sometimes it seems dull, but in other portions it'll look really nice. The silver portions on the ends of the hat strands look really good on the other hand.
While her hair is flat, it has a nice bounce and wave to it. The white ribbon portions on her dress look really nice as well, but then the edges between the white and black aren't to clean.
The oddest parts on this figure to me would be her
1. really thin neck
2. the unnatural split in her corset, and
3. The misaligned paint on her buttons.
If these things were edited it would help the overall look of the character figure. She looks better from a top view because it hides some of these issues.
I do however really dig her pose and her cute waist and legs. If they were made out of a better material I would be more pleased with the final result.
The Penguin Cap and the ruffles on the sleeves actually look really good, but the cap has some paint blotches that could've been avoided. The final thing about this figure is the lack of definition in her face.....I feel like if that were addressed more, this would make it a figure to recommend. Since it's one of the few lower priced Princess of crystal figures out there. I was lucky to find her on the preowned section of amiami, so it wasn't a bad buy for myself. When I see her on other sites for 30$ and up.....well take a look at my pictures and decide for yourself if this is one worth having in your collection for that price.
She looks pretty good with my stuff, only she is my girly girl character of the bunch so she hangs out a little by herself. If she were nicer I'd display her with my more prized figures, but she has too many up close flaws to be placed so close to viewing. I'm still a little back and forth on her but she does represent a character I enjoy and was an easy price. Remember folks, you get what you pay for in figures.
